Sherwani
We crossed the cultural Afro-Indian border and made our first fusion top bridging the two worlds of Africa and India. We are in unchartered territory. You see most of the influences to African clothes come from Europe. A western suit with African accents, a denim jacket with Kente, a European peplum dress with African fabric. What you may find (if one was to do deep research) is that Africa and India share similarities. The question is why? Maybe the Islamic heritage of the two places? Because why do Nigerians and Indians have similar cuts? Is it ancient (Islam) or modern (post-colonialism)? Note that no such similarities or fusions happened in South Africa (with the highest Indian Diaspora) and It did not happen in East Africa either. So what is left? While India and West Africa (Nigeria esp) have similarities there are also strong differences. Esp when it comes to fabric and aesthetic. With India favoring a more ornate orientation. Embroidery is radically different also. They use beadwork we use Zig Zag and African stitch.
